The challenge:
Our customer was facing a critical challenge in their manufacturing process: clamping with mechanical clamps was deforming parts due to the stress generated.
This resulted in 25% of production (1 in 4 parts) being scrapped due to out of tolerance. In addition, the need to perform multiple manual operations to achieve strict part accuracy resulted in a significant loss of productivity and limited profitability.
F-GRIP = the solution
Looking for a solution that would allow parts to be clamped without deformation and machined with maximum precision, our customer implemented the strong, removable F-GRIP adhesive.
Elimination of scrap parts:
- Previously, 1 in 4 parts were rejected; now, thanks to F-GRIP’s precise, deformation-free clamping, no parts are rejected, resulting in a 25% increase in productivity.
Tolerances down to 4 microns:
- Machining tolerances of up to 4 microns have been achieved, ensuring the required accuracy on every part. 100% of parts are valid.
Workholding efficiency:
- Previously 5 clamps, now just one. F-GRIP allows the part to be clamped without affecting the other faces, making it possible to machine a part in a single clamping. This has resulted in a 60% reduction in machine downtime.
Process automation:
- Tests are underway to enable unmanned production.
